About Beautifulcurves

BeautifulCurves is a size-acceptance site where BBW'S, BHM, FA's, and anyone else can express their thoughts, feelings, loves, desires, annoyances, gripes, and anything else that will add to the community as a whole. This is a place for men and women to be loved, praised, supported and adored regardless of size. There is so much media influence in society that is brainwashing men and women into thinking beauty comes in one standard, unattainable size, and we are here to prove that ideal wrong. It is unrealistic to expect all women to look the same, and if they did, what a boring world this would be. Here at BeautifulCurves, men and women alike gather to discuss the positive and negative side of being plus-sized and support one another in the pursuit of self-acceptance. We as BBW should be able to come together and speak of whatever we choose, so that on our good days, we may inspire others and on our bad days, others may give us a word of inspiration. We all should work together, and that is exactly what this community is about!!

Guidelines

There are little restrictions on what you may discuss in this community, but please don't take this for granted. No political discussions. There are plenty of other outlets for that purpose. This community has a diverse group of people with differing opinions that are strong and can lead to unneccessary strife. Please put all images behind a cut except for the first one, as long as it isn't too big out of respect for users with dial-up. Here is a simple guide on how to do this, any chimp could do it blindfolded. How to Cut Pictures. Non-Work Safe images are not appropriate for this community. The age group is very scatterd and includes girls under the age of 18, therefore, keep the images clean gals. There are a ton of communities on LiveJournal land where you can flaunt what mama gave ya. Please do not advertise or link to any rating communities, even if they are plus size related. It is nothing personal against anyone who runs one or is a member of one. I just feel that the guidelines for those types of communities go against the belief system of our little community. This is a place of refuge, where everyone of all sizes, shapes, and makes can come and be supported, loved and accepted. We are never here to judge or be judged. If someone is interested in putting themselves on the chopping block of the rating system, then by all means, go ahead. But I chose to not have this community as a forum of support for the said types of groups. I have had many women here who have found out about a new rating community because of ad's in this group posted and then proceed to be rejected and deeply hurt. If by adding a rule of no rating comm. ad's here saves one girl who otherwise would not have joined and been deeply hurt, it will all be worth it. I want everyone here to feel loved and beautiful because they are, whether some group of gals told them "NO" they weren't or not. Everyone here is special and equal, and that is the way it shall remain. Hateful, tormenting, or annoying posts will not be tolerated. If you do find the need to torment or harass any of the members, I will have you banned from the community and proceed to have you banned from Live Journal all together if it persists. Come out of the closet and accept your love of THE FLUFFINESS!!! Please attempt to stay on topic of being plus-sized. Basically, don't just come and post anything you would in your regular journal, after all, that is what your personal journal is for. No "Bobby called last night, and like, OMG, that made me so happy. Then we ate at Burger King, it was a good night. K, bye!" You get the point, not too difficult. ALL surveys will be contained to one original post that started the survey to keep the community cleaner. No goodbye post. They're lame and annoying. If you are leaving the community then just leave, goodbye, nice knowing you. Don't annoy people with dramatic soap opera goodbyes. Don't carry a debate into another post that will just ensue drama. Debate what you will in the original post and keep it there. Anything else will be gladly deleted. Don't talk about diet pills and bogus diet junk that doesn't do anything but make your heartbeat irrgeular and feed the buldging diet industry's pockets. If you want to discuss exercising, counting calories, etc., basically what works, then fine. But this isn't a weight loss blog so if all you are going to talk about is that then don't join. Don't post anything that disallows comments. If you can discuss it here and give your opinion you should also allows others to have theirs and not try to censor them. Also, no screened comments, be brave and stand behind what you post or just don't post at all. Don't be catty to someone just because they are a smaller size than you. Everyone is different and this world would be a damn boring place otherwise. Other than that, use your intelligent discretion and please do not take the info and leniency of it for granted.

Does anyone else feel like they're betraying their curves when they try and lose weight? I have been working out for about 2 weeks now, and it kind of makes me feel guilty.I love being a big girl, but I feel like it's gone too far, and I'm no longer healthy. It took me years to love who I was, and now I feel like I'm back to hating myself only this time I'm showing it by working out. Of course I do still love my body, but it's hard for me to really feel like I'm loving my body the way it is when I've actively been trying to lose weight.

Anybody know how to get prescription meds online? [13 Jan 2010|04:06pm]

I'm looking into getting my hypertension meds online without a prescription, because I do not want to have to pay $65-100 for a doctor visit. I'll only be told I need to exercise and lose weight....bleah bleah bleah....now pay money for an 'office visit' which will only be weighing me and blood pressure. Plus I'll have to wait in office for 2 hours (he never sees anybody on time) to them have to pay even more money for the prescription. Most of the stuff I see online is either crap sites or prescription-only sites. I'm about ready to find out if anybody I know is going to Mexico sometime, and can get bulk amounts of the stuff.

I don't have a job, no health care....so yeah....I can't just get another doctor who will also want to see me every 6 months to fork out money for nothing.

Lots of BBW graphics here, but several are Pagan/Witchy/Wiccan-themed, plus some not-so-work-safe ones too, so if you find any of that distasteful, or if it might get you in trouble with a boss/co-worker/parent/teacher, refrain for a bit, OK? :)

I've decided sort of at the last minute to buy some cute lingerie for when my boyfriend returns from his 7 month deployment on Friday. I'm pretty shy about stuff like that, but I decided I was going to be brave since it's a special occasion. I have no idea where I should look though. I'm not a huge girl, only a size 16/18, but my breasts are pretty big so they don't carry my size at like victoria's secret, and even if they did, I do not want to spend $50 on one item. I'd like to be able to go to the store, but any place who can over night it, would work too.

So where can I buy reasonably priced plus sized, cute lingerie that I can get a hold of fast?

A rant... [20 Jul 2009|09:34pm]

amichandrn
[ mood | irritated ]

I am a little bit irritated. Ok, more than a little bit irritated. I opened up AOL only to be greeted with "Obama's Pick Caused Debate: New Surgeon General Has Spotless Record: Should Her Weight Matter?"

Guess what, douchebags. No, it should not.

Regina Benjamin is a patient advocate. She started a public health clinic where she treats EVERYONE, regardless of ability to pay, and still holds the position of CEO of this clinic. She was an associate dean for the University of South Alabama's medical college. She was the FIRST black woman to become president of a state medical society, as well as the first person under 40 to be appointed to the board of the American Medical Association. She's also received a MacArthur Foundation "genius grant" and a Nelson Mandela Award for Health and Human Rights. When her clinic wasn't making money, she did not take her salary. She has mortgaged her home and maxed out her credit cards to ensure that everyone who needs services in her town can get them. This is a woman who truly cares about her patients.

She also is trained and experienced in the field of medicine. According to Newsweek, "Most previous surgeons general have come from either government or academia."

Benjamin received a B.S. from Xavier University of Louisiana in 1979. She attended Morehouse School of Medicine and received then received an M.D. in 1984 from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She completed her residency in family practice at the Medical Center of Central Georgia, and has worked in ERs and nursing homes in her years of practicing medicine.

Oh, and let's not forget that pesky Masters degree she got in Business Administration in 1991 from Tulane University.

Take a look at her profile. I'll wait.

Ok, So why would people not want this, not just a woman, but a PERSON who has accomplished so much, to be the Surgeon General?

So far, the issues has been weight and to a seemingly lesser extent, race. (The race issue is usually associated with "OMG, OBAMA CHOSE ANOTHER MINORITY!!!!") However, I am not addressing the race issue here, as the weight issue is really what's bothering me.

In the comments sections of various reports, comments have been left by the dozens, claiming that Benjamin is NOT fit to serve as surgeon general because of her weight.

Here are some lovely examples, placed under a cut, as they may be triggers:

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?Collapse )

Ok, lets get some things straight.

1) The BMI is a guideline, and honestly, must be taken with a HUGE heap of salt. It was created in the 1950s using white middle-aged men from the suburbs as their sample. They never looked at women. They never looked at other races or ethnicities. The statistics were adjusted slightly in the 70s, but really? Not all that accurate.

2) Obesity does not CAUSE heart disease or diabetes. It could be a symptom of an underlying cause (Cushings, Thyroid issues), but it is not a cause, nor is an immediate indicator of a problem. For all we know, it could be that heart disease causes obesity. An example of this would be: A person has heart disease. His heart works harder and as such, he gets tired more easily, so he exercises less, causing him to gain weight. These studies that get thrown at us are correlational studies. They show that two things are likely to be associated, but they do NOT show causation. Do your research.

3) Fat people who like themselves are not in denial. We genuinely do like ourselves. It's a hell of a lot easier than hating ourselves for something most of us can't change on a grand scale.

4) Fat is necessary. We need it to use certain vitamins, as well as for brain function and development. So when you give your one-year old skim milk or soy milk because it's "Less Fattening," guess what? You just hindered them a bit more.

5) Repeated dieting is more likely to cause heart disease than being obese.

And here's a news flash for these people:

I'm obese. I always have been. I'm also healthy. My blood pressure is normal. My blood sugar is perfect. I hate cake, cookies, ice cream and most candy. I don't eat potato chips. I prefer fruit and fruit sorbet to all other desserts. I rarely drink regular soda. I exercise. I'm smart. I'm funny. I like to dance. I have a first kyu brown belt in karate. I took Tae Kwon Do. I liked to tumble when I was in high school, back when I had time. And I like myself. So where do I fit in your schema of obesity?

People assume that obesity has an ingrained link to lack of self-control, eating nothing but junk or stupidity. I want to see these studies, because my research has shown none of this.

In the end, I honestly believe the Regina Benjamin is the best choice for the position. She is well-trained, intelligent, educated, and caring. She is someone who will put the health of the American people first. Her weight is a non-issue. People who are criticizing her for her weight really need to take a look at themselves, because there's something there that they don't like that they need to deal with first.

wedding dress dilemna [20 Jul 2009|12:01am]

runwayluver
 Hey all,

I am new to the community  and was hoping some of you may have some advise.  I am in the process of starting to plan my wedding and starting my hunt for a wedding dress.  I actually found a dress online by Maggie Sottero that I am obsessed with.  The trouble is of course finding a store that will have it in a size even remotely close to mine to try and get a feel for what it will look like on.  People have suggested looking for similar ones at stores like David's Bridal that specialize in plus size but it has such a specific waist that I haven't found anything even slightly like it.  Has anyone in the Northeast areas had any luck with any Bridal Shops carrying plus size samples that they could suggest?  Any help would be much appreciated.  Thanks!

Hello lovely ladies! (and perhaps gentlemen?)

I don't think I have posted here in a very long time, so most of you won't remember me. Recently I had something happen to me that I really don't know where else to turn to to feel better! I was out shopping with my boyfriend, and a man was staring at me, I looked away and he says "excuse me miss?- are you expecting" EXPECTING! I am most certainly not! I had no idea what to say, so I did what came natural - I bawled my eyes out. I also have a customer at work who is convinced I am pregnant, I told him the first time I am not but every time he comes in he goes "oh still no baby? these things take time" I have worked there 11 months- that is a very overdue baby!

Its true, I do carry most of my weight in my stomach, and have a tendency to wear empire waist shirts/dresses but to myself, I don't look pregnant. I have gained winter weight and am working on it, but it has come to the point where I am scared to go out, I am scared to wear my favorite dresses because maybe they do make me look fatter, I suck in my stomach until it hurts trying to not appear pregnant. In the couple weeks since that incident occurred I have been able to think of nothing else.

I don't know what I'm looking for by posting this, maybe some reassurance that this has happened to other people? That I'm justified in thinking that old men should keep their mouths shut unless a woman is POPPING PREGNANT? I just don't know, I just need to get this off my mind, off my chest and start thinking that I have BEAUTIFUL CURVES again. *sigh*

Plus size model call: Portland Oregon [24 Apr 2009|10:55pm]

mermeydele
This call is for a show I will be curating in November 2009. Yay! Spread the word near and far! Thanks.

Plus size model call Portland Oregon.

Kina Williams Photographer http://kinawilliams.com and Bertha Pearl of Size Queen Clothing http://www.sizequeenclothing.com are teaming up to bring you a big fat conceptual multi media show at the Q-Center Nov 2009. Would you like to come play with us??

We are looking for plus size models size XL to 6XL in Portland Oregon or immediately surrounding areas. Preferably women/female (self identified) and/or queer or gender bender identified.  We want people who are joyful in their bodies and shameless in their expression of their curves and rolls. We want people who love being photographed. We want people who won’t hesitate to show off  their bellies, butts, thighs , arms and hips... and have some fun with us, regardless of experience with this kind of thing..

Shooting dates will run throughout the summer in Portland Oregon, so if there is an extended period of time that you will be away from Portland please let us know those dates in your response.

We will be working with professional and amateur makeup artists. If you have an MUA you already work with please introduce us. Bertha will be doing the styling. Kina will be executing the themes through set design, location and post production techniques in her photography.

Each photo session will run approximately 2 hours with the entire process of makeup and styling taking up to 4 hours. Shooting dates will adjust if the weather isn’t right for the theme, but will be rescheduled for the next possible day.  Currently we are putting together shoots for “steampunk” “cirque” and “southern belle”. The rest of the concepts have not been solidified at this time. We will be shooting anywhere between 6-10 themes.

You must be able to sign a legally binding model release form in order to participate in this project.  Can’t flex on that one.

This is a barter based model call. What we have in return for your time/effort is 10 web res and 5 full res images from the session fully edited, deep discounts on prints from the show (it is also my goal to artfully frame them in recycled materials), a pair of boxers OR a pair of bloomers from Size Queen and a discount on any merchandise in the store including the outfit you modeled.

If you are interested please respond by contacting kinawilliamsphotographer/ at/ gmail /dot/ com with MODEL CALL in the subject line.  Please send a head shot and a full body shot (low res images ONLY) they do not have to be professional pictures, but we need to be able to see you. We will also need your standard measurements (bust, hip, waist height) and please introduce yourself…we’d love to meet you!!

Please feel free to post widely…and thank you!

Cheers!!
Kina Williams, Bertha Pearl
